BETC Services for High School Dropouts

A number of people continue to fail to earn a high school diploma each year. For these individuals, there must be an effective alternative to proceeding through life without a high school degree and the reduced job opportunities that follow (see chart below). That alternative exists, the High School Equivalency (HSE) classes (formerly known as GED classes) in reading, writing, mathematics, science and social studies, all the instruction you need to take the new New York State High School equivalency Test called TASC (Test Assessing Secondary Completion.
Here at BETC we realize the importance of having a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency (HSE) Diploma which is why we offer on-site HSE classes provided by the Buffalo Public Schools Adult Education Center.
While attending classes here as member of BETC, you also have available to you a host of free services to assist you with your job and career search.

These services include:
  • Job search assistance
  • Resume development
  • Job placement services
  • Workshops on interviewing, career planning cover letters and more
  • Introductory computer classes
  • Beginning computer classes in Microsoft 2010 Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher and keyboarding classes
  • How to complete employment applications, including on-line applications
  • Explaining legal issues related to criminal records and job search
  • On-the-Job Training Program
  • Career planning and counseling
  • Specialized training available in targeted demand occupations / careers
  • Support services and referral to human services agencies
  • High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation and testing
  • Job Club
  • Networking group
